a custom made variable display typeface called blacklink.

beginning concepts
building the typeface begins with creating
concepts. the third concept is the one that
made the final cut - a geometric typeface
where all characters would link by notches
at the bottom and top (for large characters).
in the real
a mock advertisement for a new truck model, with blacklink being the wordmark of the company and the type used on the truck's raised badge.
the system
with concept 3 approved, an integral concept was that all characters would "link" together with extrusions on their left and a groove that would receive it on the right of each character. all counters would be the exact same weight and all measurements would be based around the width of the universal counter.
variable
blacklink has three variable axes: weight, width, and slant. condensed thin and condensed thin italic are currently in progress.
